Welsh Language Interface (Beta)

The Public Portal can display its own interface — navigation, labels, buttons, and other chrome — in Welsh (Cymraeg) as well as English.

Turning it on

In Settings → Public Portal → Branding, set Portal language to Cymraeg (Welsh).

What this does — and doesn't — translate

  • Translates: the portal's own interface text — menus, section headings, buttons, form labels, and similar chrome.
  • Does not translate: your record content. Item titles, descriptions, and catalogue text stay exactly as you wrote them, in whatever language they were written in. If you need bilingual or Welsh-language record descriptions, that's a separate setting for your organisation's AI output language, not this toggle.

Beta status — read before offering this to a Welsh Language Standards audience

This is marked beta for a specific reason: the Welsh interface text has been machine-drafted, not reviewed by a native or professional Welsh speaker. It's a reasonable, complete set of translations for general use, but it has not had the level of review needed to represent it as compliant to a body assessing you against Welsh Language Standards.

If Welsh Language Standards compliance matters for your institution, get a native or professional review of the portal's Welsh text before presenting it as such — treat the built-in toggle as a solid starting point, not a finished, audited translation.
